In year 2000, a group of three Italian coffee aficionados together with 3rd generation Italian Roaster Alessandro Monici created a company named Caffe Ducale which began roasting fresh coffee beans in Melbourne with the aim to tapping into the growing market driven by a strong Australian coffee culture.
In 2010, the company decided to follow new Australian market trends towards a level of boutique coffee that could only be compared to wine and olive oil, searching for particular beans with particular flavours and aromas. To accompany this change of direction, the company launched a new and exciting brand, simply named “dc”.
Today “dc” is a recognised leader in the market, not only for top quality boutique coffee, but also for its open mind as a company towards social initiatives and engaging with the community at large, for example through its dc tunes initiative for unsigned musicians.

- Approximately 3,400 cups of coffee are consumed every second of the day around the world
- Arabica beans are often lauded as the most desirable beans, producing the most delicate flavours, although sometimes light in taste. Robusta coffee beans have twice the caffeine but give the strength and bitterness that is desired by many coffee afficionados. Most commercial coffees sold are of a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. In contrast, a majority of gourmet coffees focus on finding the best Arabica.
- Caffeine is on the International Olympic Committee list of prohibited substances. Athletes who test positive for more than 12 micrograms of caffeine per milliliter of urine may be banned from the Olympic Games. This level may be reached after drinking about 5 cups of coffee
